Launching our first open-source publications
28 March 2024
In 2023, we began researching the legal support needs of organisations led by or for people from minoritised communities in the UK. On 28th March 2024, we launched our two latest open-source publications, which are the products of this research.
These resources are tools of empowerment, designed to revolutionise the way legal support is provided to communities fighting for social and racial justice: they are free to download and use.
- Community Lawyering: Building an Ecosystem of Legal Support for Grassroots-Led Social Justice. In 2023, we researched the legal support needs of grassroots organisations led by and for people from minoritised communities in the UK. Drawing on community voices, this report summarises our research findings and highlights the pressing need for an alternative model of legal support – community lawyering – in the UK.
- Legal Structuring for Social Justice: A Community Legal Toolkit. Drawing on experienced insights from grassroots community organisations undertaking social and racial justice work, this free resource helps changemakers to navigate the legal complexities of setting up non-profit organisations in the UK, fostering resilience and growth for community organisations.
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our research project – these resources are for you and we hope that you see your voices and experiences reflected throughout the work.
The launch event in Brixton, London celebrated the role of community leaders, changemakers & activists, and helped us to collective rethink the role of lawyers in supporting social change. We were thrilled to share our work with so many of you – thank you for your support and trust. We are so excited for the next chapter together.
