Friday, 28th March 2025 / 10 – 11:30 am

We’re partnering with the Black South West Network to design and run a much-needed workshop geared towards Black and Minority-led organisations working on racial justice in the South West.
Together with Sistren, BSWN will be facilitating an introductory session to help you navigate the legal complexities of starting and running organisations so that you can effectively advocate for change.
In this workshop, we’ll explore:
- Legal Structures & Purpose: Understanding the legal frameworks available for building your organisation, with a focus on what works for racial justice and how to align your work with your legal status.
- Overcoming Legal Barriers: Learn about the difficulties many racial justice organisations face when setting up, including navigating the language and legal parameters around charity status.
- Understanding Campaigning: Discuss how to campaign effectively within the limits of the law, including lessons from other organisations on choosing the right legal form to support advocacy.
- Critical Thinking & Capacity Building: Develop tools for critical thinking on how to build organisations that can truly support racial justice, and how to creatively organise in contexts with limited resources and underinvestment.
This workshop is a great opportunity to build foundational knowledge and reflect on the work you’re doing, whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your organisation to the next level.
Who is this event for?
This session is designed for organisation leaders and changemakers, providing a safe and accessible space to ask questions, share experiences, and leave with the tools to build sustainable, impactful organisations that can effectively centre racial equality and justice through their work.
